Prof. Roberto Orecchia

Roberto Orecchia was graduated cum laude in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turin and in the post doc period was certified in Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging.

Currently, and since January 2015 he is Scientific Director at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), in Milan, and Chairman of the Department of Imaging and Radiation Sciences at the same Institute.

He is Emeritus Professor at the University of Milan, where was Full Professor of Radiation Oncology from 1994 to 2017.


He is also President of TERA Foundation, funded by Ugo Amaldi, for the development of particle therapy.


He is Member of EPTN (European Particle Therapy Network), an official Task Force of ESTRO (European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology), and ENLIGHT (European Network for Light Ion Therapy).


He is Lecturer for ESTRO, ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology), and ESO (European School of Oncology) teaching courses.


He had, along more 40 years of professional life, and continues to have intense clinical, teaching, research and scientific activities. He published more than 470 full papers on journals listed in the Pub-Med, and, in addition, many chapters, books and guidelines.


He participated, in different role including as Coordinator, in several research collaborations and national and international projects funded by different US, South American, European and Italian Institutions.


He is Fellow of the European Academy of Cancer Science, and was awarded by ESTRO Regaud Medal and ESTRO Lifetime Achievement.
