Kutaisi International University (KIU) offers an English-language bachelor's program in psychology, providing students with a comprehensive education in the field.
Diploma: A joint diploma awarded by Kutaisi International University and the University of Bamberg
Compulsory subjects: Georgian Language – 25%; English Language – 70%
Compulsory-elective subjects: Biology – 25% or History – 25% or Mathematics – 25%
International Students: B1 Level in English, Enrollment Interview.
- Transfer to student knowledge about theories, authors, concepts, pathological or normative manifestations of behavior. Also, Knowledge about developmental, intrapsychic, interpersonal, social, cultural, cognitive, emotional and biological mechanisms of functioning. Students Develop their understanding on diagnostics, assessment and intervention techniques, taking into consideration ethical frames and professional responsibility.
- Develop skills for identifying behavior and mental processes, evaluating and using diagnostic instruments for drawing conclusions and planning interventions. Also developing ability to take an interdisciplinary view when reasoning about one's own conclusions, within the team and/or in front of third parties.
- Develop skills for analyzing research materials, planning and managing research and working on the data.
- Form student’s worldview and values, which make him/her a competitive, highly qualified, interdisciplinary thinker with high qualification, who can work in a complex situation within the team or independently, and who is aware of professional ethics and responsibilities towards individuals or society.
The Bachelor's Program in Psychology is a jointly developed program in collaboration with the University of Bamberg (Germany); The program is based on the curriculum of the aforementioned university's Bachelor's Program in Psychology.
After completing the program, the student can be employed as a psychologist, on the position for psycho-consultation or mental health support worker, in any type of organization: public, private or non-governmental sector, whose activities include mental health care and psycho-consultation.
Such organizations may include the following:
• Health care facilities, including mental hospital facilities;
• Private centers of therapeutic and psycho-social services;
• Educational institutions - school, kindergarten, children's homes and others;
• State or non-governmental psycho-social service programs;
• Penitentiary and law enforcement institutions;
• Homes for the elderly.
Based on the acquired knowledge and developed skills, student can also be employed in the field of organizational psychology and/or in a social and psychological research center.
The bachelor's degree program provides students with the opportunity to continue their studies and build a successful career in both clinical psychology and other applied fields of psychology.
• The program has been developed in collaboration with University of Bamberg and is based on its undergraduate psychology curriculum.
• KIU’s B.Sc. in Psychology is an internationally accredited program.
• The duration of the program is three academic years.
• Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a joint diploma (Germany and Georgia) conferring the academic degree of Bachelor of Psychology.
• The program is led by both Georgian and German professors and specialists, who are also active practitioners in their respective fields.
• It includes a 600-hour internship opportunity, covering both research and professional experience.
• Students interested in careers in general or clinical psychology will receive a strong foundation to pursue further studies internationally.
