Associate Professor Roin Rekvava


Associate Professor Roin Rekvava is the Head of the School of Medicine at Kutaisi International University (KIU), a cardiologist, and a cardiac electrophysiologist. With extensive academic and clinical experience, he specializes in cardiology and heart rhythm management.


He earned his medical degree from Tbilisi State Medical University, followed by a residency and postgraduate studies in cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology at the Bakulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow, Russia (2004–2009). Additionally, he completed an observership in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, USA (2009–2010) and obtained a PhD in Cardiology from David Tvildiani Medical University in 2018.


Since 2009, Professor Rekvava has been actively engaged in academic teaching and scientific research, collaborating with universities and research institutions in Georgia and abroad. His works has been published in leading scientific journals across Europe and the United States. He serves as the President of the Silk Road Heart Rhythm Association and the Head of the Electrophysiology Division of the Asian Cardiology Association.


Additionally, he is a member of multiple international professional associations, including the European Society of Cardiology and the European Heart Rhythm Association.


Professor Rekvava plays an active role in international scientific and clinical projects and is a frequent speaker at global medical conferences. He has conducted masterclasses in cardiac surgery in leading hospitals and medical centers across 12 countries.
