As part of the I2Q project aimed at promoting the internationalization of higher education in Georgia, the third International Excellence School is being held at Kutaisi International University (KIU) from January 24-26. The event was officially opened by Tamar Ghvamichava, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia. This year's Excellence School focuses on the theme “Intellectual Property in Higher Education“.

KIU Rector, Professor Giorgi Khubua, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing that events like these foster international academic and scientific collaboration, as well as the exchange of innovative knowledge. During his address, the Rector highlighted KIU’s new Master's program, "Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship," which will be launched in partnership with National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – “Sakpatenti”. This program, he noted, will play a crucial role in advancing the field of intellectual property protection in Georgia.

The guests were also welcomed by Tamar Sanikidze, Executive Director of the “Innovation, Inclusion and Quality Project” – Georgia I2Q, Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, Professor Shalva Kirtadze, Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University, and Professor Tatiana Fumasoli, Professor of University College London (UCL).

The International Excellence School is attended by 30 young scientists and researchers. Over the course of the three-day event, participants will enhance their understanding of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, while taking part in workshops, simulations, situational analyses, and group discussions.

The Excellence School is organized by University College London, in partnership with the consulting firm Savvy Business Ltd, and co-hosted by Kutaisi International University (KIU) and Akaki Tsereteli State University.

As part of the I2Q project, two previous International Excellence School events have already taken place in Georgia. The primary goal of the International Excellence School is to enhance research capabilities at Georgian universities, improving the quality of their research structures, processes, and outcomes.
