 01/11/2024

On November 1-3, the French-Georgian Regional Topical School of Physics is being held at Kutaisi International University (KIU). The topical lecture program, which engages both Georgian and foreign students, is financially supported by KIU and is a collaboration with the Embassy of France in Georgia and the French-Georgian University.

As part of the program, the first conference was inaugurated by KIU Chancellor Tea Imedadze and Hadron Therapy Center Director Vakhtang Tsagareli. The Chancellor wished the participants a productive experience and highlighted the importance of involving young people in the advancement of the field of physics.

Vakhtang Tsagareli provided detailed information about the Hadron Therapy Center and discussed potential collaborations with the French side in proton therapy.

During the three-day event, meetings, conferences, workshops, panel discussions, and presentations will focus on high energy, nuclear, and medical physics. Georgian and French professors will participate, giving students the opportunity to share best practices, discuss existing challenges, and explore potential solutions.

Upon completing the French-Georgian Regional Topical School of Physics, participating students will be awarded certificates. The project is supported by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris-Saclay University, the Laboratory of the Physics of the Two Infinities Irène Joliot-Curie (IJCLab), the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University, and Ilia State University.

Since 2020, KIU has hosted a number of local, regional, and international events. Among these are the European Physics Olympiad, European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI), and the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.
