Hadron Therapy Center of Kutaisi International University will cooperate with IBA, the largest manufacturer of equipment for treatment of oncology diseases.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia Mikheil Chkhenkeli met with Regional Director of international company IBA Andrew Daik and Administrative Director of the same company Sabine de Vogel.  The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the International Charity Foundation “Cartu” Nikoloz Chkhetiani, Project Manager of the same foundation Vakhtang Tsagareli, and Rector of Kutaisi International University Alexander Tevzadze.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the development of the Hadron Therapy Center, which will be established at the Kutaisi International University base, and the prospects of cooperation with the company IBA in this regard.

IBA is an international leading company that develops and manufactures proton therapy equipment for the treatment of oncological diseases. The representatives of the company together with the Georgian side discussed the cyclotron type accelerators, which will be placed in the scientific-research and medical centers of Kutaisi International University.

As a result of the project, Georgia will be involved in the international network of proton therapy centers; in addition, modern research in nuclear experimental physics, radiation biophysics and chemistry will be carried out. The proton therapy center will be the only clinic for treatment of oncological diseases with modern methods across the region.
