Vakhtang Tsagareli
Executive Director / Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU)
Vakhtang Tsagareli graduated with honors from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and holds a Master’s degree in Physics, specializing in Semiconductor and Solid-State Physics. After graduating from Tbilisi State University, he participated in an exchange program at the Technical University of Berlin/Technische Universität Berlin, where he completed a course in Applied Electrodynamics.
In 2006–2007 he was based in the United States, in the states of North Carolina and Massachusetts. He successfully completed the Information Technology Development Program at Research Triangle Park and North Carolina State University, as well as an intensive Telecommunications and Information Technologies Express Program in Boston. He also undertook training at the State Office for Nuclear Safety in Prague, Czech Republic. He later continued his professional development in the United States, completing an advanced nuclear medicine and radiation safety training program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with the support of Harvard Medical School. He represents the SEEIIST program of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Georgia. He has also completed a Business Administration course at the European School of Management.
As a young researcher, scientist, and project manager, Vakhtang Tsagareli has worked at various international and local organizations, as well as commercial companies. He served as Technical Director of the internet service provider “Geonet” and was the Co-Founder and Director of the technology company INT Communications. Between 2008 and 2016 he worked for the Chinese technology giant “Huawei”, where he was Head of Sales and Marketing for the Georgian office and a member of the Board of Directors.
Since 2017, he has worked at The International Charity Foundation “Cartu” concurrently leading the Kutaisi University Campus and the Kutaisi Hadron Centre as Project Director. For several months, he also served as Acting Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU).
As Project Director of the international charitable foundation “Cartu”, Vakhtang Tsagareli played a key role in developing the concept of Kutaisi International University and in overseeing the construction of its ultra‑modern infrastructure. In recognition of his significant contribution to the development of the city of Kutaisi, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Kutaisi.
He has held the position of Rector of Kutaisi International University since 11 May 2026.
Vakhtang Tsagareli is married and has three children.
