Kutaisi International University (KIU) and the LEPL Center for Professional Training and Retraining of Convicts have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The document was signed by KIU Executive Director/Rector, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli, and the Head of the Centre, Ms. Tamta Demurishvili. Those attending the signing ceremony included the Deputy Minister of Justice, Dr. Merab Turava; KIU Chancellor, Dr. Levan Kopaliani, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the university.
The collaboration is intended to enhance internship opportunities for students enrolled in KIU’s Psychology and Law programmes. Students will gain practical experience at the Center in key areas, including resocialisation and rehabilitation of convicted offenders, probationers, and former prisoners; state support services for beneficiaries; and the psychological and legal aspects of rehabilitation process.
As a part of the visit, the speakers delivered a public lecture for KIU students, which was opened with a welcoming remark by Kutaisi International University Executive Director/Rector, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli. The Deputy Minister of Justice, Dr. Merab Turava, spoke about the Ministry's priorities, and the lecture subsequently addressed ongoing educational and employment programmes that support the resocialisation and rehabilitation of convicted offenders, probationers, and former prisoners.
