14 June marks the Day for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. On this occasion, representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia visited Kutaisi International University (KIU) and delivered a public lecture for KIU students.
Kutaisi International University (KIU) Executive Director/Rector, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli, together with Deputy Minister of Justice, Dr. Merab Turava, opened the event. The Deputy Minister noted that the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and the accessibility of public services constitute one of the Ministry of Justice’s key priorities.
The speakers informed students about key issues including the national and international legal framework on the rights of persons with disabilities, the principle of reasonable accommodation, and appropriate approaches to engaging with persons with disabilities. The meeting aimed to raise awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and to familiarise participants with public services and relevant State policies.
Kutaisi International University’s ultramodern infrastructure, including its educational and residential spaces, is fully adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities, and the campus ensures physical accessibility, supporting full participation in academic life.
