A trilateral memorandum of cooperation has been signed between Kutaisi International University (KIU), Georgian Technical University (GTU), and the SHiP Collaboration of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN).
The document was signed by Acting Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU) and Director of Kutaisi University Campus, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli, Rector of Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze and Spokesperson of the Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) experiment at CERN, Professor Dr. Andrey Golutvin.
The main goal of the Memorandum is to strengthen the internationalisation of ongoing scientific processes in Georgia and bring the country closer to the European Research Area.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Dr. Zviad Gabisonia, who highlighted the significance of the agreement in expanding Georgia's international research partnerships.
Under the Memorandum, Georgian scientists and researchers will be able to participate in joint research projects and receive professional training. Georgian engineers will also have greater opportunities to engage in CERN's experimental research.
"The trilateral memorandum of understanding marks an important step towards the internationalisation of Georgia's research landscape. Collaboration with CERN's SHiP opens up opportunities to strengthen local research capacity and to integrate into global experimental physics. Particularly noteworthy is the prospect of Georgian researchers and engineers taking part in international projects, which will support knowledge sharing, the development of professional expertise, and closer engagement with the European Research Area.” – Vakhtang Tsagareli.
This collaboration is of particular importance for the Kutaisi Hadron Centre (KHC), which will be equipped with cyclotron-type accelerators for use in both scientific research and medical treatment.
