The Giorgi Nikoladze Scientific Research Centre Established at Kutaisi International University

 24/03/2026

Kutaisi International University (KIU) has officially established the Giorgi Nikoladze Scientific Research Centre, with the aim of advancing scientific research and supporting multidisciplinary activity across the STEM fields. The inauguration ceremony was opened with a welcoming address by Acting Rector of KIU and Director of the Kutaisi University Campus, Mr. Vakhtang Tsagareli. The presentation of the Centre was attended by KIU programme heads, students, and representatives of the university's administration, alongside invited guests.

The Research Centre will be led by Professor of Kutaisi International University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, Dr. Alexandre Meskhi, who introduced the Centre's mission and principal objectives to those in attendance. Particular emphasis was placed on the Centre's future plans, KIU's scientific achievements, and the institution's prospective directions in the field of STEM.

The Giorgi Nikoladze Scientific Research Centre is envisioned as a collaborative space where established scientists, emerging researchers, and students will converge around innovative ideas, engaging in STEM research projects, and participating in international academic forums.

The Centre's core objectives are as follows: to organise scientific events in partnership with international research centres; to support the professional development of early-career scientists and increase their engagement in STEAM project creation; to promote the research capacity of Kutaisi International University; and to strengthen KIU's role within the international academic and scientific community.

It is noteworthy that the advancement of STEM programmes and the support of corresponding research activities constitute one of KIU's strategic priorities — a commitment that will further consolidate the university's position as a leading innovation, technology, and entrepreneurial hub in the region.

The Centre bears the name of Giorgi Nikoladze, a distinguished Georgian mathematician and inventor, whose legacy includes a number of significant scientific contributions. He developed a theory of algebraic systems of algebraic curves, which subsequently formed the basis of his doctoral dissertation, defended at the University of Sorbonne (Paris). Giorgi Nikoladze delivered lectures in Analytic Geometry and Differential Geometry at Tbilisi State University. In his honour, a national prize has been established in Georgia for outstanding scientific work in the field of engineering and technology.
