Kutaisi International University (KIU) hosted Professor Sergey Barsuk, a representative of Paris-Saclay University, a researcher at the Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory (IJCLab), and a participant in CERN’s LHCb experiment. He held working meetings with Vakhtang Tsagareli, Acting Rector of KIU and Director of the Kutaisi University Campus, as well as with Levan Kopaliani, Chancellor of KIU.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospective plans for collaboration with Paris-Saclay University and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). The meeting was attended by Mariam Naneishvili, Head of KIU’s International Relations Department, and Professor Revaz Shanidze, Head of Scientific Programs at the Kutaisi Hadron Centre. Following the meeting, Professor Sergey Barsuk delivered a public lecture for KIU students entitled “High Energy Physics at IJCLab (Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory) and CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research): The LHCb Experiment.”
The Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory (IJCLab, CNRS and Paris-Saclay University) is the largest scientific research laboratory of CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and has made significant historical contributions to high-energy physics. Notably, large-scale experiments conducted within the framework of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider also bring together groups of physicists and engineers from IJCLab, who participate in the ALICE, CMS, ATLAS, and LHCb experiments.
Paris-Saclay University is one of Europe’s leading universities, and the sharing of its expertise in the development and enhancement of new educational programs is particularly important for KIU. Professor Sergey Barsuk also serves as an Erasmus+ program coordinator at Paris-Saclay University. Four Georgian state universities participate in this program, including Kutaisi International University (KIU).
