Students from Kutaisi International University (KIU) have actively participated in environmental conservation efforts. Members of KIU's "Eco Club" planted approximately 40 Imeretian oak saplings on the territory of Kutaisi Mukhnari.
The forest restoration program is being implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture through the National Forestry Agency. Deputy Minister Kakha Kakabadze visited the site to observe the work and participated alongside students in planting the saplings.
The "Eco Club," established by KIU students, systematically organizes environmental initiatives, including: greening campaigns and the protection and development of green spaces, educational campaigns aimed at raising awareness, and other eco-friendly activities.
The National Forestry Agency has been conducting forest restoration work in the Kutaisi Mukhnari since 2018. Both planting and natural regeneration facilitation measures have been carried out. As part of the amelioration infrastructure development, drainage works were conducted in waterlogged areas. To date, forest restoration measures encompass 270 hectares. Approximately 9,500 deciduous saplings have been planted, including the Red List-protected Imeretian oak.
