A delegation from Kutaisi International University (KIU) is currently undertaking a working visit to Japan. As part of the visit, KIU has signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding with Tokai University in Japan.
The agreement aims to foster the development of partnerships in higher education and scientific research, promote the implementation of student and faculty exchange programs, encourage joint research projects, and strengthening innovative educational initiatives.
The memorandum was signed by Professor Paata Turava, Acting Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU); Vakhtang Tsagareli, Director of Kutaisi University Campus and the Kutaisi Hadron Center KHC; and Professor Yoshitaka Kajita, Provost of Tokai University. The signing ceremony was attended by Teimuraz Lezhava, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Japan, who congratulated the parties on the agreement reached and wished them success in achieving the set goals.
This memorandum will create new opportunities for both students and researchers, promote international academic integration, and deepen cultural ties between Georgia and Japan. The partnership aligns with KIU's strategic objectives and will contribute to the Kutaisi International University’s growing role within the global educational network. The collaboration will encompass joint research projects in artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, medicine, oncology, public health, and innovation. In addition, the parties plan to implement joint educational programs, conferences, seminars, and symposiums, which will facilitate the development of an innovative ecosystem.
During the visit, the KIU delegation is also holding meetings with representatives of leading universities and research institutes in Japan, to discuss specific directions for future cooperation.
Tokai University is one of Japan's largest and most prestigious private educational institutions, with a history dating back to 1942. The university encompasses diverse faculties and research centers covering a broad spectrum of fields including science, engineering, medicine, economics, and humanities. Tokai University is distinguished by its advanced research infrastructure, innovative academic approaches, and international partnerships. Currently, the university has 30,000 students from Japan and various countries around the world, which grants it a significant role in the global educational landscape.
