The academic year has commenced for students enrolled in master's programs at Kutaisi International University (KIU). To mark the beginning of the new academic year, an introductory meeting was held with the master's students, which was opened with a welcoming address by the Acting Rector of Kutaisi International University, Professor Paata Turava. He congratulated the young people on the commencement of their studies and wished them success. The meeting was attended by KIU Chancellor Levan Kopaliani, Salome Tsimakuridze, Head of Administration of "Sakpatenti" - the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, heads of KIU's Schools of Computer Science and Management, as well as the heads of the master's programs.
Kutaisi International University, along with other significant innovations, begins the 2025-2026 academic year with the implementation of two new master's programs. These are: "Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IP, In & En)" and "Embedded Computer Systems (ECSY)".
The one-year, English-language master's program - "Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IP, In & En)" is WIPO's 19th international program and has no analogue in the region. The educational process is conducted in hybrid mode with a student-oriented schedule and is led by internationally recognized foreign and Georgian professors. The objective of the master's program is to prepare qualified personnel in the fields of intellectual property management, innovation management, and entrepreneurship. The program is directed by Doctor of Law Gvantsa Gugeshashvili, who attended today's meeting remotely.
"Embedded Computer Systems (ECSY)" - the new master's program is being implemented in collaboration with the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) (Germany). This two-year, English-language double degree master's program provides a unique opportunity to obtain high-technology education, international experience, and industrial practice. The program is directed by Academic Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor Ia Mosashvili. This program also has a German co-head, Professor Wolfgang Kunz (University of Kaiserslautern-Landau).
The interdisciplinary master's program - "Finance and Information Management" (FIM) has been successfully implemented at KIU for the second year, in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), one of Europe's leading institutions. It involves professors from TUM, Toronto, and other leading universities. The director of the FIM master's program is Professor Rudi Zagst, who simultaneously heads the Department of Mathematical Finance at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and is the co-founder of the FIM program. The educational process is conducted with a student-oriented schedule. The program integrates digital finance, management, information technology, and mathematics.
All three master's programs prepare students for the global employment market, for research and employment in relevant sectors both in Georgia and at the international level.
