Georgian film director Gela Babluani working in France met with KIU students

The film director Gela Babluani made a presentation at Kutaisi International University on the French Film School based in Georgia by him. The Georgian artist working in France met with KIU students and told them about his works. Young people had the opportunity to get familiar with the director's work. The meeting along with the students was attended by the Chancellor of the University Magda Magradze, the Mayor of Kutaisi Ioseb Khakhaleishvili and the staff of KIU.

"Today, Kutaisi International University hosted Gela Babluani, a Georgian film director working in France. Students had the opportunity to get familiar with the work of the director.  Mr. Babluani spoke about his projects. As you are aware, Kutaisi International Short Film Festival includes several events, within the framework of which an interesting new project - the opening of a French film school - was announced. A new film school will be opened at the initiative of Gela Babluani. It is very important for our university to host such events, KIU has become the so-called hub in Imereti region and, in general, the hub of important events and projects in Georgia in the field of education and science, as well as culture," - said the University Chancellor Magda Magradze.

On May 8-12, 2021 the Kutaisi International Short Film Festival will be held with the support of Kutaisi City Hall and the Georgian National Film Center. Within the framework of this project, Director Gela Babluani visited Kutaisi International University.

"Today I visited Kutaisi International University and met with talented young people. I am pleased that I was given the opportunity to interact with the students. I introduced them the information on the new film school. We plan to open a school in the near future, and similar events are very important to us. Kutaisi is hosting an International Short Film Festival this year and today our  visit to the university was an integral part of this project."- said film director Gela Babluani.

The festival will open on May 8 at Lado Meskhishvili State Drama Theater with Leo Gabriadze's film "Hari-Harale Mother". The competition was announced in July 2020, the festival received up to 500 films from around the world. Competitive films include films from Georgia, France, Japan, Italy, Britain, the United States, Turkey, Belgium, Russia, Switzerland, Iran, Singapore, Spain, Pakistan, Argentina, Australia, India, and Poland.

15 films are participating in the main competition of the festival (from 10 to 30 minutes) and 26 films - in the second competition (from 1 to 5 minutes). The winners will be announced on May 12.
