 19/06/2025

A public lecture titled “Know Your Rights in the Field of Communications” was held at Kutaisi International University (KIU), delivered by the Office of the Public Defender of Consumer Interests.

The event was opened by the Acting Rector of KIU, Professor Paata Turava. The lecture was presented by Communications Ombudsman Gvantsa Chkheidze and focused on raising awareness of consumer rights in the communications sector. The session was attended by KIU students and university staff.

Participants learned about the role and activities of the Public Defender of Consumer Interests and received information on rights guaranteed by Georgian legislation, company obligations, complaint and application procedures, relevant deadlines, and other important matters in the field. The lecture also addressed key topics such as the importance of public awareness in telecommunications, the need for transparency in consumer information, and the necessity of quality control in telecommunications services. Attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions and receive responses.

During the visit, a working meeting was held between Professor Paata Turava and representatives of the office of the Public Defender of Consumer Interests, during which future cooperation opportunities were discussed.

The office of Public Defender of Consumer Interests acts as an additional safeguard for protecting consumer rights in the communications sector and operates independently from the Georgian National Communications Commission. Its mandate is to defend the rights and legitimate interests of consumers in the fields of electronic communications and broadcasting.

Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Kutaisi International University and the Communications Commission in 2022. The partnership aims to support joint projects in the fields of digital communication technologies and media literacy.
