Kutaisi International University (KIU) recently hosted the first internal chess championship, drawing participation from nearly 80 students. The tournament featured both men’s and women’s divisions.
Women’s Category Winners:
1st Place – Mariam Pachuashvili
2nd Place – Tekla Tsikhadze
Men’s Category Winners:
1st Place – Jaba Adamia
2nd Place – Tornike Tsereteli
3rd Place – Nikoloz Gabriadze
Champions were awarded rotating trophies, medals, and diplomas, while all participants received certificates in recognition of their involvement.
Notably, the event was preceded by the official launch of the KIU Chess Club. The club provides students with a space for weekly meetings, offering both practical training and theoretical masterclasses led by distinguished grandmasters.
The club inauguration and championship were attended by KIU Rector, Professor Giorgi Khubua; distinguished Georgian chess player and international grandmaster Nana Ioseliani; President of the Imereti Chess Federation and Chair of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Zaza Lominadze; and Georgian chess player and international grandmaster Giorgi Giorgadze.
