KIU Associate Professor Besik Dundia Delivers Public Lecture in the framework of the Youth University

 24/03/2025

As part of KIU’s Youth University initiative, Associate Professor Besik Dundua from the Computer Science program delivered a public lecture titled: “Solving Equations Symbolically and Its Role in Artificial Intelligence.”

Aimed at school students, the session explored three key approaches in artificial intelligence: statistical, symbolic, and hybrid—the latter combining the strengths of both methods. Emphasis was placed on understanding the fundamental concepts and real-world applications of each approach. Students were introduced to symbolic equation solving within the framework of first-order logic. They examined its core principles and discussed its relevance to the development of artificial intelligence. The lecture also illustrated how this method is used in knowledge representation and inference processes—essential components in fields such as logic programming, automated theorem proving, and mathematical modeling.

The lecture drew nearly 500 students from grades 9 to 12 representing schools across the Imereti region. Participants had the opportunity to receive information on topics of interest and share their own perspectives.

"KIU Youth University" is a new initiative of Kutaisi International University, designed to expand access to non-formal education for young people. The project aims to spark curiosity, nurture a love of learning, and introduce students to university life from an early age. It also fosters the development of critical thinking, creativity, and social skills while broadening participants’ career horizons. The lecture series is delivered by both KIU’s academic staff and invited guest lecturers.
