Kutaisi International University (KIU) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, "Sakpatenti."
The document was signed by Professor Giorgi Khubua, Rector of KIU, and Soso Giorgadze, Chairman of Sakpatenti.

The main objective of the memorandum is to organize joint workshops, panel discussions, seminars, training sessions, informational campaigns, competitions, ideathons, hackathons, and masterclasses to foster international scientific and practical cooperation. It also aims to offer students valuable work experience, helping them develop essential practical skills.

A key aspect of the agreement is that, through a petition to the European Patent Office (EPO), Sakpatenti will provide KIU students and academic staff with access to EPO Academy’s PATLIB training courses and materials. This will enable them to utilize patent information and tools in their scientific and research activities. Ultimately, this will contribute to the commercialization and protection of innovative projects and research, enhance KIU’s international competitiveness, and help develop the country’s innovative ecosystem.

The meeting was attended by KIU Chancellor Tea Imedadze, Sakpatenti Deputy Chairman Nino Chikovani, and Lali Amiranashvili, Head of Sakpatenti’s Education and Training Center.

The introduction of an international master’s program in intellectual property education in Georgia is currently underway. A tripartite memorandum is planned between KIU, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Sakpatenti. The master’s program, titled "Intellectual Property, Innovations, and Entrepreneurship," aims to improve access to higher education in intellectual property, raise the quality of education in this field, and establish a regional center for international intellectual property.

The WIPO Academy already offers joint master’s programs in intellectual property with 18 leading universities across 17 countries.
