Kutaisi International University (KIU) hosted a delegation from the University of Naples Federico II, led by its rector, Professor Matteo Lorito.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Kutaisi International University and University of Naples Federico II. The agreement was signed by KIU Rector, Professor Giorgi Khubua, and University of Naples Rector, Professor Matteo Lorito.
The primary objectives of the memorandum are to establish exchange programs for students and academic staff, develop joint educational programs, organize international conferences and symposiums, and promote collaborative research activities.
As part of the visit, a meeting was held where Professor Lorito delivered a presentation on the history and achievements of the University of Naples.
The event was attended by KIU Chancellor Tea Imedadze, Rector of Sokhumi State University Professor Zurab Khonelidze, KIU students, and other invited guests.
The guests also toured the KIU campus, exploring fully equipped living spaces, laboratories, cafeteria, library, collaborative workspaces, and an interactive learning management system—all designed to support high-quality teaching and research.
Kutaisi International University is Georgia’s largest educational mega-project, inaugurated in 2020. It is the first international state higher education institution in the history of independent Georgia, an initiative by Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family. The university has received a €1 billion investment from the International Charitable Fund "Cartu" to ensure its development and success.
Founded on June 5, 1224, Federico II State University of Naples is the world’s first state university. With over 90,000 students and numerous historic buildings, university is one of Europe’s largest and most influential universities, celebrating its 800th anniversary this year.
