The photo competition "KIU PHOTO CONTEST" of Kutaisi International University was founded at the initiative of Kutaisi International University; KIU Photo Contest is funded by the International Charity Foundation “Cartu”.
The competition is organized by the NNLE "Culture and Contacts". The main aim of the KIU Photo Contest is to support the development of photography in Georgia by promoting professional growth of young photographers by identifying, supporting and strengthening their careers.
The theme of this year's competition is "Georgia - Stories told with the images". Participants are free in the interpretation of the topic, the creative approach and the aesthetics of the work.
Amateur and professional photographers aged from 18 to 30 (citizens of Georgia, as well as people living in Abkhazia and Samachablo) can take part in the photo contest.
The competition jury consists of internationally recognized professionals in the field of photography, including:
- Thomas Dvorak - Photographer, President of MAGNUM PHOTOS Photo Agency;
- MaryAnne Golon - Head of Photography Division and Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Post;
- Alessia Glaviano – Senior Photo Editor of Vogue Italia;
- Azu Nwagbogu - Founder and Director of African Artists' Foundation (AAF) and the LagosPhoto Festival;
- Natela Grigalashvili - Independent photo documentalist and photo journalist.
Amateur and professional photographers aged from 18 to 30 (citizens of Georgia as well as people living in Abkhazia and Samachablo) could participate in the photo contest.
The deadline for applications is February 1, 2021. The winners will be announced in the spring of 2021.
Competition categories and awards:
Within the competition, it is possible to send both completed and current photo projects. Photo series can be from any genre - documentary, conceptual, reportage.
Contestants must indicate which category they are participating in. The categories of the photo contest are:
1. Only professional photographers are allowed to participate in the Professional Photographers category. Each participant has the right to send only one photo-series.
2. The Amateur Photographers category is open to amateur photographers. Each participant has the right to submit only one photo-series.
3. Both professional and amateur photographers can participate in One-Shot category. Each participant in this category can submit a maximum of three individual photos.
