From September 9 to 13 this year, Georgia hosted the 7th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI 2023) with financial support provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The closing ceremony of the Olympiad and awarding the winners was held in the ceremony hall of Akaki Tsereteli State University. The closing event was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Giorgi Amilakhvari, Deputy Minister Tamar Makharashvili, Kutaisi Mayor Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, Kutaisi International University Rector Alexander Tevzadze, KIU Chancellor Magda Magradze, "Cartu" Foundation Projects Director Vakhtang Tsagareli, Olympiad President, Organizational, Scientific and members of technical committees, diplomats, local government representatives, contestants, invited guests.
In the 2023 Olympiad, 25 teams from 24 countries of the world, and a total of about 100 contestants participated. Georgia, as the host country, was represented by 2 teams. Teams and their leaders lived at Kutaisi International University for a week. During the several-day competition, young people worked on tasks of different complexity. Georgian contestants won 6 medals at this year's Olympiad. Bulgarian Andrei Stefanov became the absolute champion of EJOI 2023. On September 13, the winners were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals and honorary diplomas.
The European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) is one of the prestigious and successful tournaments, which was founded 7 years ago and has revealed many talented and outstanding young people over the years. At different times in the EJOI Olympiad, Georgian youths have also achieved significant success and won gold, silver and bronze medals. The winner and absolute champion of EJOI's first gold medal is Nikoloz Birkadze from Georgia.
EJOI is considered an important event in the field of information technologies. Talented young people under the age of 16 have the opportunity to compete with each other, test their abilities by solving interesting and difficult tasks and gain valuable experience. The first Olympiad was held in Sofia in 2017. EJOI was founded with the support of the President of Bulgaria, European Commissioners (for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as Digital Economy and Society) and the European Parliament. During the pandemic, the Olympiad was held online, Georgia hosted EJOI in 2020. According to the decision of the International Committee of the Olympiad, Georgia was again given the opportunity to host one of the successful tournaments in Europe this year.
The 7th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics - EJOI is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and organized by Kutaisi International University. The goal of the Olympiad is to promote the STEM direction among young people and identify successful and talented students in the field of information technology.
