With the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the 7th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI 2023) is being held in Kutaisi from September 9 to 13 this year. The Olympiad, which was opened on September 9 in the ceremony hall of Akaki Tsereteli State University, was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Makharashvili, Deputy Mayor of Kutaisi Tamar Dakhundaridze, Rector of Kutaisi International University Alexander Tevzadze, KIU Chancellor Magda Magradze, co-presidents of the Olympiad, members of the organizing, scientific, and technical committees, contestants, and invited guests.
Twenty-five teams from twenty-four countries around the world are participating in the 2023 Olympiad, with a total of over 100 contestants. Georgia, as the host country, is represented by two teams. Teams and their leaders live at Kutaisi International University for one week. Throughout the several-day competition, young participants work on tasks of varying complexity. The winners will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as honorary diplomas during the closing ceremony on September 13.
The European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) is one of the prestigious and successful tournaments, founded seven years ago, that has discovered many talented and exceptional young individuals over the years. In various editions of the EJOI Olympiad, Georgian youths have achieved significant success, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals. The first gold medalist and absolute champion of EJOI is Nikoloz Birkadze from Georgia.
EJOI is considered an important event in the field of information technologies. Talented young people below the age of 16 have the opportunity to compete with each other, test their skills by solving interesting and challenging tasks, and gain valuable experience. The inaugural Olympiad was held in Sofia in 2017. EJOI was founded with the support of President Rumen Radev of Bulgaria, European Commissioners for Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports, as well as Digital Economy and Society from the European Union, and the European Parliament. During the pandemic, the Olympiad was held online. In 2020, Georgia had the privilege of hosting EJOI. According to the decision of the International Committee of the Olympiad, Georgia has once again been granted the opportunity to host this successful tournament in Europe this year.
The 7th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and organized by Kutaisi International University.
