The Georgian-German Scientific Bridge conference was solemnly opened at the Kutaisi International University. The topic of this year’s conference was “Health as a Global Challenge”. Reports were presented in the fields of neurology, cancer treatment, proton therapy, radiology, and biomedicine imaging.
The Minister of Education and Science, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, welcomed the participants to the conference in an online format. The minister spoke about the international conference and stressed the importance of the construction of the center for hadron therapy, which is being organized at the Kutaisi International University.
“It is symbolic that today we are hosting this conference at a truly European educational institution of international standard - Kutaisi International University. The author of the idea and the concept of the university is Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili. It is due to his and his family’s extremely important philanthropic work that a world class academic and research center has appeared in the country. A hadron therapy center is being built on the basis of the Kutaisi International University with funding from the Cartu Foundation, where international scientific circles will be involved in the research process in the fields of oncology and proton therapy. The state-of-the-art cyclotrons of the Hadron Therapy Center have already been assembled for scientific research by the world's leading manufacturer of proton therapy equipment (IBA),” said the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, (Read more: https://www.mes.gov.ge/content.php?id=13141&lang=geo)
The conference is attended by international partners of the University, representatives of leading research centers in Germany, including: Jülich Center for Neutron Science, The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research (Darmstadt), representatives of Aachen, Jena and Munich Technical Universities participate in the conference.
“The Georgian-German Scientific Bridge conference opened today at Kutaisi International University. The guests are the heads of the leading scientific centers in Germany, as well as members of the international advisory council of the University, and we will have an opportunity to discuss with them not only scientific directions, but also the strategic plan of development of the University”, - stated the Rector of the Kutaisi International University, Alexandre Tevzadze.
The 2022 conference “Georgian-German Scientific Bridge” will last three days at KIU. Leading world scientists will give public lectures in the fields of neuroscience, cancer treatment, proton therapy, radiology and biomedicine imaging. Worth mentioning is the public lecture by Professor Roberto Orecchia, President of the European Society of Oncology, on the future of hadron therapy and precision oncology.
Parallel to the 9th Georgian-German Scientific Bridge Conference, a meeting of the International Advisory Board of the Kutaisi International University was held, at which the results achieved by the University in 2 years were discussed. The meeting discussed the directions of the University's development and the projects of the center for hadron therapy.
