The Minister of Justice of Georgia, Rati Bregadze, Deputy Ministers and representatives of the Ministry visited Kutaisi International University. The guests delivered  a public lecture on “Protection of Georgian Sovereignty by Legal Means” to the students of KIU.

National Legal Security and Legal Struggle for Protection of Georgian Sovereignty is the course of the public lectures held by the Ministry of Justice which started on May 26th  in Ambrolauri on the Georgian Independence Day and continues throughout the country.

Rati Bregadze opened the meeting at KIU and addressed the audience.

“We started the series of lectures symbolically on May 26th , Independence Day. We want, first of all, the youth and all interested persons to be informed about what security means in legal terms; what is being done in order to protect our national sovereignty to the maximum; also, what a difficult path the state, people working in the Ministry of Justice and various public structures go through in order to provide security for each of us, so that the whole world knows that Georgia is an independent and sovereign state, and its territories are occupied. The right to say that Russia is an occupant is the result of the successful work of the entire government as well as the Ministry of Justice after the historical decision of the Strasbourg Court. The state does not belong to any government - it belongs to  the people,” said Rati Bregadze.

According to the Rector of KIU Alexandre Tevzadze, the lecture was very important and interesting for the students as a part of the general and civic education component.

“The students of Kutaisi International University have heard an interesting public lecture about how Georgia's sovereign interest can be protected through legal means. I think that this is a very important issue for students of any field and specialty as a part  of general and civic education” - said the Rector of the Kutaisi International University Alexandre Tevzadze.

Deputy Minister Beka Dzamashvili told the audience about the difficult and successful struggle  the Ministry of Justice is waging against Russia at the European Court of Human Rights and The Hague International Criminal Court to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

He explained the importance of the fact that the Strasbourg and the Hague Courts have recognized our country's territorial integrity in their rulings and confirmed that Georgia is occupied by Russia as well as what legal leverage is given to Georgia by the Strasbourg Court's recognition  of the ethnic cleansing of Georgians in the Tskhinvali region by the Russian Federation.

The rector of the Kutaisi International University Alexandre Tevzadze, Deputy Ministers of Justice Tamar Tkeshelashvili and  Erekle Gvinianidze, Imereti Deputy Governors,  civil servants, students, representatives of the academic circle and the cadet corps attended the public lecture.
