A memorandum of cooperation was signed between Kutaisi International University (KIU) and the Georgian  National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (GNERC) in the framework of the KIU Innovation Ecosystem Platform. The Memorandum was signed by KIU Rector Alexandre Tevzadze and GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania. Further cooperation between the parties includes the promotion of student internships, educational training   and professional development at the Georgian National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. The partnership is aimed at preparing joint projects related to various scientific and educational issues, organizing conferences and scientific forums, exchanging experience and knowledge between active scientific experts and students.

“In order to support KIU students and alumni, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Kutaisi International University and GNERC. Under the memorandum, we plan to offer internship and employment programs for our students in various GNERC member companies, as well as joint projects that students and graduates will develop together with GNERC. Kutaisi International University last year established an innovation ecosystem platform within which we cooperate with various industry representatives, and in this regard cooperation with GNERC and GNERC member companies is a very priority for us,” said Magda Magradze, Chancellor of Kutaisi International University.

After the signing ceremony, a meeting was held with students on the topic – “The role of the regulatory commission in the development of the energy and water sectors and cooperation with universities”.  GNERC  Chairman Davit Narmania told the young people about the innovations and challenges in the energy and water sectors and introduced the internship programs.

“I am delighted that we are starting cooperation with Kutaisi International University, which is one of the best universities in the world both in terms of education and research, and creating an appropriate environment for students during their studies. As GNERC chairperson I express my willingness to provide additional opportunities for students to undertake internships and training at GNERC, to learn on site the specifics of the regulator's work and the principles of energy and water sector regulation. I think this will help those students who are planning to work in the energy or water sector to better shape their future career goals,” said Davit Narmania.

The visit included a meeting with the executive staff of KIU. The guests were given a tour of the university campus, seeing the modern and state-of-the-art laboratories, common workspaces, library, academic building, student dormitories and campus infrastructure.
