On 13 and 14 March Kutaisi International University (KIU) held several events dedicated to the International Day of Mathematics. On March 13, KIU’s School of Mathematics and Computer Science provided an opportunity for high school seniors to participate in KIU π-DAY MATH CONTEST 2022, a mathematical competition dedicated to the International Day of Mathematics. About 200 applicants registered for the competition and about 90 participants were able to give their answers to problems that KIU students had prepared specifically for the day. The answers are currently being corrected and the students who will make it to the final stage of the competition will be known soon. The competition was held online.
On March 14, the semi-finalists for the KIU Visual Mathematics Festival 2022 were announced. As part of the event, students from Mathematics and Computer Science program presented projects created in the area of visual mathematics. Six teams of 22 students take part in the festival. Projects created by them include:
Games and Their Theories;
Fractals, Mandelbrot and Julia sets, Mandelbulb;
Out Of This World;
Music in Rational Dimensions;
Vector Art with Fourier Series;
The Mathematical Beauty of Snowflakes.
Teams will continue to work on their projects and the final versions will be presented at the final Visual Mathematics Festival event in October this year. The winning teams will be selected by the festival jury and awarded. The winning projects will be on display at the KIU campus.
International Day of Mathematics is celebrated annually on 14 March by the decision of UNESCO of 26 November 2019. KIU π-DAY is registered on the International Mathematical Union interactive project map.
