“Cartu” Foundation and Kutaisi International University held a presentation of the new educational space.

Within the framework of presentation, a Memorandum of Collaboration was signed with Kutaisi International University and “Julich” International Research Center. Also, a panel discussion was held.

The idea of establishing KutaisiInternational University belongs to Bidzina Ivanishvili. The project, presented on September 8, 2016, is fully funded by the International Charity Foundation “Cartu”, and the tentative budget is one billion euros.

Since the restoration of Georgia's independence, a new state university has been established for the first time. The educational space will be ready to receive the first cohort of students in September 2020.

The model of Kutaisi International University has been developed in close cooperation with the Technical University of Munich. The University will be an educational space equipped with modern infrastructure and technologies, providing high quality higher education for Georgian and foreign students.

Georgian and foreign academic staff will work in the new educational space. The University is actively collaborating with the world's leading educational and scientific centers in the field of science.

Kutaisi International University will be a leading provider of scientific and educational services, an international center for science and technology across the region. It will become the most important component of Georgia's positioning in the international educational space. The management system of the university, educational directions, the selection of researchers and lecturers will be in accordance with the management system of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), with which Kutaisi University campus has been cooperating since 2017.

In the first phase of the project, 170 thousand square meters of buildings are constructed, which will include 3 study premises, 3 student dormitories, residential building for professors, central library and canteen. 2 additional training buildings - Hadron Therapy Center, University Clinic, laboratories and other scientific-research facilities - will be constructed during the next stages.

The presentation of the new educational space is attended by the founder of Kutaisi International University, Chairman of the Board of the “Cartu” Foundation Niko Chkhetiani, Rector of Kutaisi International University, Professor Aleko Tevzadze, President of the Technical University of Munich Wolfgang Hermann, Director of the Institute for Neuroscience and Medicine at the Jülich Research Center Bernd Neumaier, IBA Group Executive Vice President Serge Lamisse, representatives of the executive and legislative branches, international organizations and the diplomatic corps, educational circles and the public.
