Professor Revaz Shanidze
Professor Revaz Shanidze is the Head of the School of Physics at Kutaisi International University (KIU). As a researcher and professor, Revaz Shanidze has worked at various educational and research institutions, including Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia), the German National Research Center for Particle Physics (DESY), Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg (Germany), the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva, Switzerland), and others.
Revaz Shanidze is a member of the German Physical Society, a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of High Energy Physics, a member of the Institutional Board of the international scientific collaboration KM3NeT, and a member of the International Advisory Committee of the symposium “Physics in Collision.” He served as a member of the Academic Council of Tbilisi State University from 2016 to 2024.
At the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, he leads the Master’s program “Radiation Safety and Nuclear Medical Physics.” Under his supervision and co-supervision, numerous diploma theses (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and doctoral dissertations have been prepared. Since 1979, he has participated in research conducted at high-energy particle accelerators and in the preparation of research programs for international experiments.
The scientific works carried out with his participation have been recognized among the world’s most important scientific achievements, including the 2012 discovery of the Higgs boson in the CMS experiment at CERN and the 2013 discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos in the IceCube experiment.
Since 2017, Revaz Shanidze has participated in research in medical physics and nuclear medicine, and since 2020 he has led research activities in this field at Kutaisi International University. His scientific presentations include contributions at international conferences and meetings of the BIS-2, CMS, TESLA, HERMES, ANTARES, IceCube and KM3NeT collaborations in various countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, France, and others. He is the author and co-author of more than 270 scientific publications, a significant portion of which have been published in international scientific journals.
Vakhtang Tsagareli
Vakhtang Tsagareli graduated with honors from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and holds a Master’s degree in Physics, specializing in Semiconductor and Solid-State Physics. As a young researcher, scientist, and project manager, Vakhtang Tsagareli has worked at various international and local organizations, as well as commercial companies.
In 2006–2007 he was based in the United States, in the states of North Carolina and Massachusetts. He successfully completed the Information Technology Development Program at Research Triangle Park and North Carolina State University, as well as an intensive Telecommunications and Information Technologies Express Program in Boston. He also undertook training at the State Office for Nuclear Safety in Prague, Czech Republic. He later continued his professional development in the United States, completing an advanced nuclear medicine and radiation safety training program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with the support of Harvard Medical School. He represents the SEEIIST program of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Georgia. He has also completed a Business Administration course at the European School of Management.
He has held the position of Executive Director / Rector of Kutaisi International University since 11 May 2026.
