Program Overview:

 

The Master’s program in Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship is designed to provide students with modern theoretical and practical knowledge in intellectual property and innovation management. The program supports skill development enabling students to drive innovation in both SMEs and large corporations. It integrates core IP mechanisms—such as copyrights, patents, and trademarks—into innovation promotion across sectors. The teaching approach includes case analysis and interdisciplinary learning, allowing students to develop complex, innovative strategies. This approach makes the program attractive for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professionals from public and private sectors aiming to develop specialized skills in this field.

 

Key Advantages of the Program:

This master’s program was developed in close collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – SAKPATENTI. It was created within the framework of WIPO Academy’s University Partnership Program as one of its joint master’s programs. It will be the 19th such joint master’s program globally. WIPO actively promotes the program worldwide, attracting international students and offering scholarships to increase its accessibility and visibility. The program is implemented under a tripartite memorandum signed on February 27, 2025.

 

Program Objectives: 

The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in intellectual property and innovation fields, supporting their ongoing professional growth.

G1: Prepare students with strong theoretical and practical competencies to promote innovation in various settings, from SMEs to large enterprises.

G2: Develop the ability to assess and integrate key IP mechanisms—such as copyrights, patents, and trademarks—thus fostering innovation across public and private sectors and promoting a culture of innovation.

G3: Enable students to formulate complex IP and innovation strategies through interdisciplinary learning and case-based synthesis.

 


Program Structure:

The Master’s program is designed to offer students an opportunity to acquire interdisciplinary competencies in IP, entrepreneurship, and innovation—fields crucial to modern business and economic development. The program lasts 1 year (2 academic semesters) and totals 60 ECTS credits.


Credit Breakdown:

• Mandatory Courses – 36 ECTS

• Elective Courses – 12 ECTS (students select 4 out of 10 elective courses)

• Entrepreneurship and Startups – Graduates may launch or join startups where knowledge of IP, innovation, and business management is critical. They may advise on innovation protection and IP strategies.

Admission Requirements:

• Admission is open to candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in any field, subject to passing a specialized interview.

• Georgian students are admitted based on the Unified Master’s Exam results, proof of English proficiency at B2 level, and the interview.

• International applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, demonstrate B2-level English proficiency, and pass the interview.

• Interview questions and evaluation criteria will be published on the KIU website at least one month before the admission period.

• Admission via mobility is also available in accordance with Georgian legislation.
