The Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU), Professor Giorgi Khubua, recently visited Germany on a working trip.
During his visit, Professor Khubua met with Professor Markus Schwaiger President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (BAdW), and Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann, former President of the Technical University of Munich and Honorary President of Kutaisi International University.
The meeting focused on the development of the Kutaisi Hadron Therapy Center and explored opportunities to strengthen the partnership in radiation and nuclear medicine. A memorandum of cooperation was signed by KIU Rector, Professor Giorgi Khubua, and BAdW President, Professor Markus Schwaiger. The memorandum aims to foster joint scientific projects, support research activities, and establish exchange programs for administrative and academic personnel to enhance their qualifications.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the strong cooperation between Georgia and Germany. Giorgi Khubua expressed his gratitude to the German side for many years of productive scientific collaboration.
In turn, Professor Markus Schwaiger and Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann assured the Rector of their commitment to deepening cooperation. They emphasized that the new memorandum would further advance innovative scientific research and medical services in Georgia, strengthening KIU's ties with the German scientific community. Professor Markus Schwaiger, President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, is a renowned researcher in radiation and nuclear medicine, having made significant contributions to the development of this field.
Bavarian Academy of Sciences is a prestigious scientific institution with a rich history. Currently, it brings together more than 300 renowned scientists. Throughout its history, the Academy has had as members distinguished figures such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Max Weber, Werner Heisenberg, and many others.
